Augusta man accused of robbing woman at gunpoint

An Augusta man accused of robbing a woman of more than $650 worth of items last week was booked into the Augusta-Richmond County jail Tuesday.

Police charged Antonio Wright, 18, of Sprucewood Drive, with armed robbery and possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime, jail records show.

About 11 a.m. on Aug. 28, Jasmine Wiley, of Hephzibah, said she arrived at a house in the 3000 block of Thomas Lane to meet with Wright, according to a sheriff’s office incident report. She said Wright was selling a 42-inch television and a “note pad,” and they agreed to meet at the house so that she could look at the items.

Wiley told police that she pulled up to the house and approached Wright, who was standing under the carport. When Wiley drew closer, Wright brandished a gun and put it to her head, the report said.

Wright demanded Wiley hand over everything she had, and she gave him her purse containing her phone and $240 in cash. Wright then took off running behind the house.

Police later learned that the house was vacant. Wiley told police that she had spoken with Wright for more than a year via Facebook, but never met him in person.
