MARIETTA, Ga. — A Cobb County couple has been arrested after authorities found two children living in a filthy home filled with roaches, trash and animal droppings.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports Carlton and Sharon Hightower of Power Springs were arrested Thursday in Cobb County juvenile court.

Jail records show they face two counts each of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Sharon Hightower was also charged with first degree cruelty to children.

An arrest warrant says the couple allowed a 14-month-old and a 9-year-old to live in a home in terrible conditions, and the baby had blistering and severe diaper rash.

Jail records show Carlton Hightower was released Friday on $15,000 bond, and Sharon Hightower was released early Saturday on $20,000 bond. It was not immediately clear if they had lawyers.

Every parent/caregiver that

Every parent/caregiver that lives like that should be arrested and the children placed elsewhere.

Okay, Answer Me This....

If the house was in filth, which I'm going to assume no money, where did the $3500 come from to bail these poor excuses for parents out ?? The kids should be permanently taken away from the parents. And they should be monitored to make sure that they bring no more to the planet.

This breaks my heart.

This breaks my heart. Everyone can be clean, regardless of financial status. These children dont stand a chance.

I agree

Where did they get that kind of money, having their children live like that? This should be felony child abuse, not contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

POOR, does not mean you have

POOR, does not mean you have to live in filth!! RICH or WELL OFF, doesn't mean you live a clean life!! People CHOOSE to live this way!! If you gave people like this 5 million dollars, they would eventually still live this way!! They would waste the money, then be right back here again!!

laziness. Plain and simple. If you can't motivate yourself to keep your children in as clean an environment as possible, you are a lousy employee, if you are employed.

Lots of parents with money

Lots of parents with money neglect their kids. It's not about money.

But I saw the 5 mug shots, one of them looks like walking death, you can see that she's a meth addict.

It's usually drinking, drugs, or mental illlness, but sometimes it's just a worthless, lazy, selfish parent.

Unsecured Bail

They were probably released on unsecured bail. You don't put up any money but you sign a bond to appear in court and if you don't appear, the bail is revoked and you are put in jail.

Cleaning House has nothing to do with Income

I have seen well off people that lived in squallier and dirt floor poor
have very clean houses.

It has a lot to do with the just the person(s) involved.

Also as pointed out by M1 & BM above, they had bail or the bail bond equivalent of $35,000.00 to quickly get out of Jail.

I don't see this as a Unsecured bond type of incident.

Everybody

so far has categorized those "things" that have let children to live in such conditions are not People, Persons, Humans as such. Can't be classified as animals either, because animals will care for their young with their life. So, deal with these Things accordingly...
