A south Augusta shop owner reported that three men stole about $20,000 in hair extensions from the beauty supply business.

According to a police report, three men pried open the door of Hair Depot, 2944 Deans Bridge Road, shortly before 4 a.m. Thursday and loaded their arms with expensive long extensions.

The men were caught on surveillance video but covered their faces with T-shirts.

It was not the store’s first hair theft.

A woman and a girl were charged with stealing 10 packs of extensions valued at $290 from the store in 2011.

In 2003, two women dragged a male employee about 50 feet with their car when they tried to escape. Police said the employee approached the driver, who grabbed his arm and tried to speed away.

Inventory

Maybe the shop needs to keep a little less inventory in the store.

Or put it up in a safe at the end of every work day.

Put it in the safe?!

This is "Hair Depot"...implying that mostly what they sell is this hair. Saying "put it up in a safe" is like suggesting the Shoe Dept. store put all the shoes in a safe. Not exactly reasonable...

Must Have a "Fence"

Evidently, these thieves are fencing this stuff. That is a lot of hair for one or two people. Sometimes, thieves will take stolen merchandise to a "fence". The "fence" will purchase stolen goods "wholesale" and sell the merchandise as a legal tax paying retailer would. Word gets around about these "fences", and folk who frequent them really think they are "getting over". Truth of the matter is nobody really "gets over' because one way or another, the cost for theft is handed down to the taxpayers. This too, is a manner of keeping the "poor" in the same place and robbing the rich. Not funny at all.
