Someone stole copper wire and a copper ground plate from a Gordon Highway cellphone tower.

According to a police report, cables were cut from at least 10 areas at the base of the tower in the 2900 block of Gordon Highway. The areas are secured inside a locked gate, but a deputy did not see any new damage to the gate or fence.

The replacement costs were estimated at $450 in material and more than $1,000 in labor.

The report stated the thefts occurred sometime between 8 a.m. Aug. 1 and Monday morning.

Sounds like an inside job, or someone familiar with that sort of construction.

There's a whole bunch at this power substation right down the road. Help yourselves. Wear rubber boots and gloves.

Things that are happening in

Things that are happening in our society are eerily paralleled in Ayn Rand's book "Atlas Shrugged", written over 50 years ago. She wrote of things like copper and other metal thefts and vandals, small businesses going under by the thousands, factories and other producers blowing up in unusual numbers, greater numbers of planes, trains, ships crashing, sinking, businessmen dropping successful businesses and retiring early, or leaving for other countries to retire or do their business there. Things that make you go hmmmm.

Not surprising. Locations

Not surprising. Locations ripe with metal that people can easily sell, usually located in low-visibility areas where (thanks to the stories like these) they know that no one ever comes to check on them more than once or twice a month. Even if they had to break into the fenced area it's not like anyone would see them and really likely no one from the company would catch them in the act.
