Editor's Note: Because incorrect information was provided by authorities, an earlier version of this story inaccurately identified the suspect who was arrested.

A man was arrested Wednesday night in the shooting of his girlfriend during an argument at a south Augusta apartment that afternoon, police said.

James Clifton Tate, 31, was arrested in Villa Rica, Ga., by the Georgia State Patrol. He was taken to the Richmond County jail.

The victim, Bertha Lopez, 35, was taken to Georgia Regents Medical Center shortly after 5 p.m., according to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

Tate left Pinnacle Place Apartments off Tobacco Road driving a 2009 gold Cadillac CTS belonging to Lopez, police said.

I should not seriously comment until after the 3rd update.

But at least we know
About Where and about When

The Who, What about. and Where shot should be coming soon.

And the elephant in the room remains the same. Of course, we can't openly discuss that part.

How can you have a daily

How can you have a daily shooting story when you might have one shooting over several weeks?

Hephzibah is a real city with boundaries, and this Oinnacle Place area is only the address.

I'm actually speechless that

I'm actually speechless that you would really believe Augusta could ever have 365 shootings in one year. Did the stats from earlier this year go away? Is July the entire year? The month of February had 9 aggravated assaults, and even if they were all shootings their are 28 days in February.

There's already less homicides this year compared to last..

Jmo.. Look at the crime stats

Jmo.. Look at the crime stats for 2013. The Chronicle will sometimes have the same articles over a few days.
http://www.augustaga.gov/index.aspx?NID=325

Crime is down this year, and you're only focusing on the increased shootings over a couple of weeks. The month of July only represents one of 12 different months.

January-June had 8 less homicides this year compared to last, and we didn't have 8 homicides last month either.

Working folk dont have time to go around shooting.

If some of these people had a job they would not have time to
go around shooting each other. I bet most of these shooters and their victims are on some sort of public assistance. Get a job and go to work. It will make you some money and it may save your life!!!!!!

She had a 2009 Cadillac so

She had a 2009 Cadillac so i'm almost sure someone was working. You have instances of domestic violence all over the city, it isn't exclusive to south Augusta. I'm still trying to figure out what the elephant in the room is, although I can take a wild guess and probably be correct with the posters that comment on the chronicle articles.

Shootings in ARC Aug.7 2012 to latest update

Just Added up murders and shootings using only a Firearm:

We have had 149 REPORTS.
So it is quite likely the total number of shooting victims number could easily be in the low to mid 200's, just using the AC's limited Crime Data base.

So claims of 1 day are plausible, but not provable given the limited facts available.

So what are your odds of being shot in ARC in a year?

Population, 2012 estimate - 197,872
Conservative Est. of people shot - 200
About 1 in 989.36 over the year
Odds of being in or at 1 of the 149 shootings over the year:
About 1 in 1328 over a year

Keep in mind 2 things:
1.) I have quoted the AC Crime database in the past, and have been challenged by both sides of the comment about its the accuracy.

2.) The 149 number is subjective, and DOES NOT count the total number victims at each incident scene.

As many of us have read, the number of victims range from 1 to 4+, depending on the location: night club, house or party incident scene.

He covered 177 miles

before being caught.

He should:
ditched the high profile car at a Title Pawn.
Bought a cheaper clunker with paper tags,
Stuck to back roads,
Head to Gwinnett mall,
Leave the clunker anywhere in the Gwinnett Mall area.
Then caught the MARTA into Atlanta,
Go homeless using Marta to get to various different shelters for the next few weeks.
Pan handle for a few weeks,
Purchase a new ID on the streets for about $400 to $500.
Then skip the area as a new person.

I agree with J paul

"If some of these people had a job they would not have time to
go around shooting each other"

WE caused this shooting because we give too dang much in freebies...working folks are tired & don't have time to shoot...amen

Given where the discussion thread is headed

Think about what is costing the Taxpayers to ensure the Socialist vote in the coming elections.

A seems a Vote doesn't cheap any more.
The average low / no income voter receives about $20-24+k, in direct $$$ government benefits. It also allows for them to qualify for another $20 to $125K+++ indirect freebies, like Food Banks, vouchers for free cloths and free school supplies, Section 8 reduced rent, reduced utility bills, free phones, medical, GAS and etc etc..

Note: To be fair I have included outright College grants and Tech school grants in the upper amount. But that requires grade scores and a HS Diploma. There is actually a non-Gov produced pamphlet that helps low income / No Income people increase maximum benefits.

Look at the budget charts
http://www.usgovernmentspending.com/federal_budget_detail_fy13bs12013n_4...

Some will ague that Welfare spending is only 11% while
DOD spending is 24%. But at least the DOD produces educated workers and protects a nation when it is allowed. The DOD employs millions of people (too many) that do a job, while Welfare pays people NOT to do anything like work.

☺☻☺☻So using some Liberal logic here....☺☻☺☻
If everybody quit working and defending this country we'd cut the federal budget by over 50%, because welfare is cheaper than the DOD.

AutumnLeaves - Current distances

You are correct.
You live down near Meadowbrook 3- 4miles
the nearest Hephzibah city limits are about around 2 miles.

I must remember Hephzibah no longer ends at the Windsor Spring Rd. Patterson rd railroad bridge area and Hwy 88 Clements Rd dip heading out to Us-25.

Maybe we can increase the size some more by getting annexed in the Hephzibah and way from Richmond Co- Disgusta?

Facts

Nonnoc... Where are you getting 140 shootings from since August 7th?

There is nothing plausible about a shooting each day, because it will never happen.

The 2012 population of Richmond is different from the 2012 population of Augusta Richmond County.

The 2012 population of RC is 202,587..
