Suspect shot during Columbia County drug bust

A Columbia County sheriff’s investigator shot an armed suspect in the arm during a drug bust Friday.

About 5:30 p.m., narcotics investigators executed a search warrant at a home in the 1400 block of Collins Road in Martinez, Capt. Steve Morris said.

When officers arrived, the armed suspect brandished a weapon and was shot by one of the investigators. Morris said two investigators will be placed on administrative leave with pay as a result of the incident.

Four suspects were arrested, and the wounded suspect was taken to a local hospital for treatment, Morris said.

Marijuana, cocaine, three weapons and more than $8,000 in cash were seized from the home.

The names of the investigators and suspects were being withheld as the investigation continued, Morris said late Friday.
