Police have identified the pedestrian who died in a motorcycle wreck that also killed its driver Sunday in Hephzibah.

According to a Richmond County sheriff’s news release, Marcus Kelly, 23, of Hephzibah, died after he was hit while walking down the 2900 block of Ulm Road about 6:30 p.m. The motorcyclist, Kyterian Jones, 26, of Hephzibah, also died as a result of his injuries.

Police said Jones, who was an off-duty Wrens, Ga., police officer, was out celebrating his birthday when he lost control of his motorcycle and hit two pedestrians and a vehicle.

Jerome Gilmore, 17, the second pedestrian, was treated for a broken leg and a cut to his left leg.

Racing

When does racing and losing control constitutes celebrating and losing control?

Birthday, celebration, motorcycle,

accident, fatalities..

Please, don't let the next word be alcohol or DUI.

Darby

Darby,

It was my neighborhood. The police will be investigating any possible cause but eye witness is proof. I am sure it was accidental but with contributing cause. My prayers are with both families.

Two people dead

That is a sad and sober fact. Let the facts and circumstances stand on their own.

Police said Jones, who was an off-duty Wrens, Ga.,

Just wondering if this has anything to do with additional "Whatever".

No matter what....just sad!

Is For-Real for real?

That's a pretty serious allegation, For-Real. I've watched several newscasts and no one has made mentin of a pursuit. I'm sure there were lots of witnesses, and I'm sure that others would have verified your story. Plus, there are radio broadcast records. A pursuit would be hard to cover up. Have you called the Sheriff or GSP to verify this accusation?

police chase

Don't know if the cop was right behind him at the time of the crash but he was with siren and lights when he came by my house .With me in the front yard looking at them, minutes before. That is how the police got there before the parts stopped flying. As the neighbor on channel 12 said in an interview.

I'm curious

I watched a video of a withess who said that he stopped and rendered first aid. He said he checked for pulses and then called 911. Why would he call 911 if there was a pursuit? A patrol car would have already been on scene. He said he saw parts flying, which indicates that he was either traveling behind the motorcycle or coming the opposite way. No mention of a pursuing police car...

So sad to hear about Marcus

So sad to hear about Marcus "Chuck" dying so tragically. He and his uncles worked on the plumbing, electrical and HVAC work on my house for the last 6 months in Atlanta. Chuck always went the extra step.

This is just tragic that a cop would be racing a motorcycle and driving after drinking. Then run off the road and kill Chuck. Chuck had so much potential. He was training to become a Master Plumber with his uncle. I hope they do a through investigation. No family should have to go through this. The Pinkston family is a good family that I have known for 20 years they should not have to lose Chuck for walking down the road.
