  • Follow Crime & courts

A 27-year-old man was fatally wounded late Friday, and sheriff's investigators were questioning a suspect Saturday morning.

According to a statement from the Richmond County Sheriff's Office, deputies went to the 1800 block of Fayetteville Drive just before midnight and found Lamar King with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was taken to Georgia Regents Medical Center, where he died.

The person suspected of shooting King was being questioned but had not been charged, investigators said. The district attorney was being consulted.

Another area that has changed in 35 years

I did note the Police did not arrest the the shooter based on witness accounts.

Could this be a shooting where the Georgia "Stand your Ground" law was used?

If so, I wonder how those screaming for the law to be repealed are going to spin this?

This is a sad thing to say the least. Not enough information given to even speak of what law enforcement is doing. "...Being questioned, not being charged..." Seems like things are still in motion, and the suspect has not been told to go home, to me. It would be good to know what happened after the questioning took place. Also, "the district attorney is being consulted..." seems to me no one has taken matters in their own hands, and proper channels are being respected. That is a good thing.
