An Augusta man is accused of holding up a woman at gunpoint Friday night.

Janine Smith, of Augusta, told police that she was counting money in the parking lot of Dollar General on Peach Orchard Road when a man with dreadlocks pointed a gun through her window. The man demanded money, and Smith gave him $70.

After the man ran off, Smith drove to the Sprint gas station at 3138 Peach Orchard Road to call the police and described the man to the clerks. One said the man had left the store 30 minutes earlier and was caught on tape, the report said. Another clerk identified the man as Gary Lee Williamson, 20, of Gerald Drive. The clerk was a former classmate of Williamson.

Investigators found Williamson in the 3200 block of Windsor Spring Road and took him into custody on felony charges of armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

COUNTING MONEY
Unpublished

Why should it be "not good" counting your money in a car? The thief isn't tempted because the poor woman was counting her money. The thief was looking for someone to rob because that's what he does. Preying on innocent victims going about their normal daily routine. Put the blame where it belongs and that's on the back of the thug who commits the crime. Why should people have to change their behavior because some thug might be in the area? It's too bad the poor lady wasn't armed and shot the perp dead.
