According to a news release, a North Augusta Public Safety officer stopped a vehicle at Georgia and West Buena Vista avenues for speeding about 10:20 p.m. As the officer approached the vehicle, the driver, later identified as Earl Jamahl Spencer, 25, sped away.

Officers chased the vehicle until it lost control at West Buena Vista and Georgetown Drive while turning left. Police said the vehicle left the road, traveled up a bank of grass and into the living room of Apartment 812 at Georgetown Villas.

Melba Garrett, 77, who was in the apartment, was treated for minor injuries suffered from flying debris. She was later taken to a hospital for further treatment.

Spencer was charged with driving under the influence, failure to stop for blue lights and siren, and driving without a license.

Ms. Garrett was not *in* the apartment. She was in the adjoining one. The one the guy ran into was vacant.

The guy has TEN arrests in

The guy has TEN arrests in Richmond County alone since 2005 for drugs, breaking into cars, battery, driving with no license, harassing phone calls, obstruction, and most recently, identity theft by using a stolen card. Every single one of them only resulted in fines, probation or nolle prosequi.

What the HECK is wrong with the system?

The Police press release said this: The suspect vehicle came to rest in the living room area of 812 Georgetown Villas, occupied by 77-year old Melba Garrett. She was treated at the scene for minor injuries sustained from flying debris caused by the impact and later transported to a local hospital for further medical attention. The adjoining apartment, 814, was vacant at the time of the incident and no one was hurt.

@Sean

I was going by on-scene reports saying it only clipped Ms. Garrett's apartment (at the front door/corner), with the majority of the damage in the vacant unit the car more directly plowed into.
