Walter Lee Hopper, 44, faces a single count of aggravated assault. Assistant District Attorney Pierce Blitch said Friday in Richmond County Superior Court that Hopper attacked Paul Lee Adams, 33, on July 2. Hopper knocked Adams to the ground and punched him more than 100 times in the face before using rocks to hit him in the head. Before the assault ended, Blitch said, Hopper kicked in the victim in the head several times.

Hopper’s criminal history includes convictions for aggravated assault in 1996, possession of cocaine in 2002, disorderly conduct in 2006 and a simple battery in 2009.
