Shortly before midnight, police responded to a home in the 2500 block of East Kensington Drive in reference to a loud house party. When deputies arrived, people were running away and the officers later found Marquez Eubanks, 19, and Jeremy Whitehead, 21, with gunshot wounds to the torso.

Eubanks, of C Street, died at Georgia Regents Medical Center early Friday, according to Deputy Coroner Kenneth Boose.

Police said Whitehead, of Monte Carlo Drive, was in critical condition Friday.

Dijon Cortez Abbott, 17, of James Drive was arrested by investigators Friday night.

He faces charges of murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and two counts of aggravated assault.

Lucy C. Laney High School head football coach Lemuel Lackey said he was devastated by the loss of Eubanks, a former player.

Eubanks graduated in 2012 after four years as a starting lineman.

“He really was a good kid,” said Lackey, who was Eubank’s head coach and position coach. “This was a kid any coach would cherish to coach. I’m devastated. I really am.”

Staff Writer Wayne Staats contributed to this article.

Shortcomment's comment; although one could argue was distasteful in this venue, seeing as a young man is dead; is still accurate!! I gaurentee you, you will NOT see private jets flying in with Sharpton/Jackson inside them!! Why? Because it wouldn't further their individual careers and power grab!!!! These men couldn't care less about their race or race relations. They only care about themselve and their career!! Sharpton's got to keep that money coming in to support his 35 year old model girlfriend!!

"In my post I referred to the history of events in this nation, key word being "history". Now that I've provided you with a clue I'll leave the fact finding up to you."

No thanks on the fact finding!! I know enough about history to realize people of ALL races, during some period of time; have been treated TERRIBLE!!! Why cherry pick which point in history you want to talk about atrocities? I think I'll just learn from the past but leave the past in the past and treat everyone with respect!! I won't keep bringing up the way, DEAD PEOPLE treated certain races!! Yes, I also realize there is a SMALL segment of society that is still ignorant racists; but NONE of us can stop that!! Historically, Jews have probably been treated worse than any other group, but you don't constantly hear them race baiting!! They weren't enslaved, they were murdered by the millions and that was just in the 40's; not to mention how they were treated centuries before that!! But guess what? Hitler is dead also!! On MASS scale, people aren't treating jews that way anymore and neither are people treating black people like that on large scale.

Then you said: "Mr. Zimmerman was not arrested and obviously (there was evidence) to prove he was lying about the events. Had the roles been reversed an arrest would have been made without a problem."

Obviously that EVIDENCE wasn't so strong, hence the acquittal. Also, the weak evidence is EXACTLY why it took them so long to charge him; because they KNEW it was a weak case; hence the acquittal!! Actually, the ONLY reason they charged Zimmerman to begin with is because of the race baiters, Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson!! Before Florida charged him, the FBI had already investigated and said it was NOT race related!! There goes your "there was evidence" theory!! This entire prosecution was because Zimmerman was CONSIDERED white and the victim was an unarmed black teen.

And O.J. Simpson's trial had NOTHING to do with SELF-DEFENSE; to compare the two results is ridiculous!! I only used it to show that sometimes, black people are found innocent of killing white people!! According to you, if a white person is killed by a black person period, juries are looking for a rope!! This is NOT the 1950's man!! Come join us in the 21st century!!

And then this blatantly lie!! "A white person becomes upset and carries an arsenal of high-powered weapons into a movie theater, school, or any other gathering and opens fire on ANY and EVERY one, *(innocent children included) and the comments are of sympathy and grace."

I've been commenting on here over two years!! I challenge you to find ANYONE, not just me who wrote sympathic words about that killer!! I've never said a single sympathic word about ANY of the mass shooters!! Probably the ones saying those sympathetic words are the bleeding heart liberals who don't want to punish them, but give them counseling!! I want to immediately execute them right after their conviction!! I have ZERO compassion or sympathy for mass shooters and I don't care how mentally ill they are!! WE are better off WITHOUT them!!!

Why, Why, Why???

Why is it that many of you on here are so in a hurry to comment negatively and without any sympathy for lost of lift when it involves a black person, but yet seems to suggest a white person walking into a school and blasting away innocent kids and adults is no big deal. "While the majority of all violent crimes are perpetuated by men, American mass murders in particular seem to be the territory of white men. The Encyclopedia of Murder and Violent Crime writes that, “Compared with assailants who kill but one victim, mass murderers are overwhelmingly likely to be male, [and] are far more likely to be white,” and the numbers prove it. According to Wikipedia, 75% of the rampage killings on US record were perpetrated by white males, as were 71% of massacres in schools, and 60% of workplace rampages – a seriously disproportionate number for the number of white males that make up the general population. Clearly, there is more at play here than the advantage of opportunity." Please, get out from behind the computer, stop watching TV, and listening to the radio. Get out and see the real world for a change. If you think blacks are the only the only ones killing folks, you are dead wrong.

Heart breaking

The fact that I know Marquez is tragic he graduated with me at Laney he was a smart, funny, always smiling like he didn't have a care in the world. Its a shame that we live in the world that always involved a gun or something I just wish everyone got along with each other. The last time I saw Marquez was at graduation only if I could turn back time ill tell him he shouldn't have went to that party. Now instead of going back to school he's laying in a coffin. This is a senseless killing I hope they found whoever did this and bring justice to both families involved in this. I never thought I would know someone to die of something like this its breaking my heart I know I'm just only 19 but I just don't understand why this happen. I cant wrap my head around it. Its just not fair.

If you asked why this

If you asked why this shooting happened , I doubt anybody present could tell you. This BOB continues on and no one cares enough to find out "why"? (excuses doesn't count)

Eric Holder said he has already sat his 13 year old son down and explained to him how he must show respect for law enforcement, I would imagine he told him a whole lot more. I know that most parent do, they teach children, girls and boys, from an early age to present themselves well at all times...

Why do you choose to perpetuate

a blatant falsehood?

Please, refer to the post that suggested that.

Here we go again!!

Runningman, can you please give us the SPECIFIC example of where someone made light of a MASS shooting, because the shooter was white? Where I or anyone thought is was "no big deal"? Or showed sympathy towards the shooter? Why do people make claims that simply are NOT true? Only thing I can think is to further their agenda!!

Nice stats!! I also realize most serial killers have been white males!! What's the point? ALL PEOPLE are violent!! Oh my goodness, that must be a new revelation!! I don't live behind a computer, I work the actual streets!! I see these things with THESE EYES!! I know the truth!!

Did you also ever think that

Did you also ever think that people are getting just plain tired of race baiters like Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson and Louis Farrakhan? People are getting sick of the same old trumped up race cards being played, VERY LOUDLY by these men!!

That doesn't excuse distasteful comments on a thread like this!! I'm just giving a reason why some people might make a seemingly hateful comment. People truly are getting tired of it!

I read some of the same sentiments over on fb, and my condolences to you, his famlily and other friends. Your description of this young man just reinforces the argument about the people creating chaos over the Martin/Zimmerman thing not really caring. If they did, there would be daily marches and protests about murders like your friend. They happen all over America every day.

Imagine that!

When will the NRA come out and support Trayvon.....say things like, if only Trayvon hand a gun....didn't they make similar statements about the Aurora and Sandy Hook Shootings? What's (insert elephant here) the difference?

@Reesee - "Mr. Zimmerman was not arrested

and obviously (there was evidence) to prove he was lying about the events."

If the evidence is OBVIOUS then you have an obligation to share that OBVIOUS evidence with the rest of the thinking world.

You seem to be in possession of information not available to anyone else on the planet. Other than perhaps the illustrious Al (The sleaze) Sharpton.

Remember too, an inconsistency is NOT evidence of anything.

Your "evidence" might explain why TM elected to turn and attack Zimmerman when the easiest choice would have been to walk up to his front door, enter and sit down, watch the TV and eat his Skittles.

Please share your inside information. It's your civic duty.

Naive

Isanotherday, you make it seem as though rallies have not taken place across many U.S. cities and discussions on ways to reduce the crime committed by blacks against blacks...there are countless studies, suggesting stress, history, and other factors for such high numbers.

It just wasn't covered by the MSM....I wonder why?

Tasteless yes, blunt and to the point Yes.

No PC about it YES. Inappropriate I must yes and on purpose.

But the fact is WOB shootings will get more media attention and the Big Names only show up with their mouths open when it is a WOB shooting.

The rest of the time they don't display any concern at all for the Violence in the Black Communities. I do not see them holding protest marches making speeches or on TV or Radio, when a Black-American kills a Black-American. Example : Like the quoted 11,000 Black-Americans killed by other Black Americans that occurred during the Zimmerman Trial period.
But did not each of these 11,000+ Black-Americans died just the same?

If their goal is save lives and uphold civil rights and not about the money. Then I can honestly say they failed 11,000 times and there is no greater violation of a persons civil right than when you take his in murder.

Also my apologies to those that failed to see the lesson in my initial comment.

Don't let certain "Leaders" lead you around by the nose, think for your self.

I do offer my sincerest condolences to the family of the innocent person involved in this shooting.

This I do mean sincerely.

Question:
Was this the same Marquez Eubanks on the Laney Football team?

"It's easy to Monday Morning quarterback."

Monday morning quarterbacking is to suggest ways to have changed the outcome of a game.

It's not speculating to suggest that had TM kept walking until he had reached home, he'd be alive today. He attacked Zimmerman, not the other way around.

If Zimmerman had taken his weapon out before Trayvon attacked him, he'd not have suffered a broken nose or had his head bashed into the concrete.

If Zinmerman had taken his weapon out before Trayvon attacked, the young man would have certainly had the good sense to back off and go home.

Trayvon Martin, by his imprudent actions deprived his parents of their son. Zimmerman was well within his rights to defend himself and the jury came to the same conclusion.

I guess you could say that the jury was Monday Morning Quarterbacking too, couldn't you?

As for your question: Yes! Absolutely! I would lead someone to my home. My home IS my castle. It's the safest place on earth for me to be. (Barring a meteor strike.)

This "creepy guy" you speak of has no idea how many assault weapons or how many armed men are waiting behind that door.

Let's not get all "Freddy Krueger" paranoid here.

A Point to ponder and a Question

IF they shot each other and there was no 3rd person(s) involved?
The facts are 1 is 21 and the other was 19

Assuming the shots were fired from pistols.
Then the 19 y/o was in illegal possession of a pistol.
Because Federal Law requires a person to be 21 in the USA to have a pistol.

Question:
Using the same stupid logical being misapplied, and accepted by so many nationally.

IF the 19 y/o had not gotten out of the car, or had stayed in the house or not attended the party, or had never picked up that pistol maybe none of this would have happened?

I'm in a bad mood because

I'm in a bad mood because another young person has lost his life over something stupid most likely and people on here are using it as an excuse for race-baiting! Who declared war in Augusta? When? Over what? This plague of violence affects the whole CSRA in one way or another and has been going on for decades. There are a lot of unsolved murders that predate 2000. Meanwhile, you mean to say the person that called in the complaint about the loud party didn't get arrested? Well, that's refreshing.

You're absolutely correct, its effects us all!! But some would like to address the REAL issues and do something to stop future such events. But with the political correctness, going on in the Country; people don't address the TRUE problems, such as culture and upbringing!! People are afraid to hurt someone's poor little feelings!! Or afraid of the backlash they might receive if the speak the truth!!

I see the story has been greatly expanded now

and all the original comments based on the earlier limited story facts were retained. Making some look foolish or like the commentators just blogged without reading.

Questions that still need answering:
based on Article released on Friday, July 19, 2013 5:46 AM & Last updated 7:14 PM.

Were the only shooters, the 2 listed as wounded &killed?
What was the reason behind the shooting?
Was the "good kid" one of the shooters?
Who was the "legal" owner of the gun the the 19 y/o used?
Or was the gun stolen?

Who shot 1st?

These are a few of the questions I have.
