An Augusta man accused of slashing his girlfriend’s face and neck was denied bond Tuesday.

Clark Prater, 51, faces a charge of aggravated assault in Richmond County Superior Court. Kelli Spencer of the public defender’s office asked for a reasonable bond for Prater, who has no history of violent crimes. Prater contends the alleged victim cut herself.

Pamela Dodson ran to a neighbor’s house for help on April 26 after an argument with Prater. Dodson told investigators Prater knocked her to the ground and slashed both sides of her face and neck, said Assistant District Attorney Grant Usry. Investigators reported there was no evidence that the cuts were self-inflicted, he said.

Judge Michael N. Annis denied bond.
