THOMSON — A Thomson lawyer was found dead Monday in a parked car in Franklin, N.C.

Samuel H. Atkins Jr. was reported missing by his wife about 11 a.m. Monday, McDuffie County Sheriff Logan Marshall said. After the report was filed, Marshall said, he entered Atkins’ name in the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System, and the results showed that the body was found in Franklin.

Sgt. Don Willis, of the Macon County Sheriff’s Office in North Carolina, said Atkins was found in a car on the shoulder of the road with a gunshot wound. Marshall said the wound appeared to be self-inflicted. The vehicle Atkins was driving had been involved in an accident.

This sounds awful

Sympathy to family. He shows up as a lawyer on various internet searches, but is not shown on the Georgia State Bar website of lawyers which is odd. Wonder what the full story is? Hope the AC will follow up.

He is listed on the GA Bar Association website.

His name is actually is H. Samuel Atkins, Jr. The paper made a mistake in his name. God bless the family!

His dad was "Foots" Atkins

His dad was "Foots" Atkins and was the Chief of Police at one time of the Augusta Police Department. His family also owned the old Adams Drive In on Milledgeville Rd. which was in competition of The Pig and Whistle where Kroger is on 15th street. Very nice family. I grew up one street over in Country Club Hills.
