Child molestation suspect hospitalized

Brian Ransom

Police said a 36-year-old Augusta man was hospitalized after a run-in with a father who had been told that the man had sex with his underage daughter.

According to a Richmond County sheriff’s incident report, the 31-year-old father went over to the Anne Street home where his 12-year-old daughter lives with her mother and siblings about 7 p.m. Saturday to confront Brian Heath Ransom about a tip he had heard regarding Ransom’s relationship with his daughter.

Witnesses told police the argument turned physical and two other men had to step in to break up the fight. Ransom left on foot.

Police caught up with Ransom on Lumpkin Road. An ambulance took him to a hospital for treatment of a cut on his head and complaints of back pain.

The girl told deputies that Ransom touched her inappropriately while she sat on the couch in late June, according to the report. She said they had had intercourse four or five times.

Investigators said Ransom is the son of the owner of the Anne Street home, and was known to stay over at the residence occasionally. The girl’s mother said she was unaware of relationship, according to the report.

Ransom was booked into the Richmond County jail Sunday on a charge of child molestation.
