Georgia Bureau of Investigation forensic pathologist Dr. James Downs testified Tuesday during a military hearing to determine if the woman’s husband, Army Pvt. Isaac Aguigui , should face a court-martial on murder charges. Sgt. Deirdre Aguigui died at their on-base apartment July 17, 2011.
A military autopsy failed to determine a cause of death. Downs testified the after eliminating other causes, he concluded she died from asphyxiation.. He says her injuries show she likely struggled while someone had her in a choke hold.
Isaac Aguigui told police his wife wore handcuffs during rough but consensual sex hours before she died.
