Allando Shamars Branch, 27, of Iron Horse Drive, was booked into the Augusta-Richmond County Jail around 6:17 a.m. Sunday on charges of armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, jail records show.

Around 1:15 a.m., Rafael Duran-Nopal told police he was turning his headlights off when an unknown man approached in the 2800 block of Joy Road, pointed a gun at him and told him to hand over the car keys and his money.

When Duran-Nopal handed the items over, he grabbed the gun and yelled for help. A passerby rushed to help, the report said, and Duran-Nopal was able to wrestle the gun away from the man, who left in a white car traveling north on Boy Scout Road. Deputies recovered a .380-handgun, seven live rounds and a ammo magazine at the scene.

Around 2:30 a.m., Richmond County deputies responded to a robbery call in the 200 block of Boy Scout Road. Branch told authorities he was robbed of his .380-caliber handgun and forced into the trunk of his white 1999 Buick Century, the report said.

After Branch consented to the search of his car, deputies found a gun box for the .380-caliber gun with 13 rounds matching those found at the first crime scene.

I've noticed lately that more

I've noticed lately that more are reported as being charged with "possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime". I wonder what that adds to a sentence? Apparently it isn't enough since the pain is still worth the gain for these criminals to commit crimes with guns. I'm certain there is a tipping point where criminal activity with a gun becomes radioactive.

Instead of more and more obtrusive laws on the law abiding, Let's throw a bigger and bigger book at criminals until they get the message.

What is the name of the Good citizen that got involved?
Here is someone that deserves some recognition.

A small note to staff:
"...seven live rounds..."
Ammo is always live, Shell casings define spent/fired ammo

BTW: 380
A good little pistol for close quarters and a effective coup-DE-gra weapon.

Unpublished

Could it be that these criminals are using Obama guns? You know the ones they were suppose to sell in Mexico before they got caught.

Oh I guess I really should be fair and call them Holder guns.

Add this

and the article makes sense:

Around 3:00 a.m., Rafael Duran-Nopal and the passerby positively identified Allando Shamars Branch as the man attempting to rob him and the white 1999 Buick Century as the car being driven at the time. After laughing at the fact that their names all sounded foreign, Branch was charged and taken into custody.
