Thomson bank robbed

First Citizens Bank in Thomson was robbed Thursday morning.

A bandit robbed First Citizens Bank in downtown Thomson on Thursday, just steps away from the new home of the Thomson Police Department on Main Street.

City police, McDuffie County sheriff’s deputies and agents from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the FBI converged on the bank after receiving the 911 call at 9:40 a.m. Pat Morgan, the GBI special agent in charge of the Region 7 office in Thomson, said a man entered the bank, told a teller he had a gun and robbed her. Morgan said the weapon was never shown to the teller.

The robber is described as black, 40 to 50 years old, 5-foot-5 to 5-foot-9, 180-195 pounds and wearing a dark ball cap, eyeglasses, white T-shirt, black pants, and red-and-white tennis shoes. He is believed to have left on foot.
