The trial began Monday for a Hephzibah woman accused of murder in the stabbing death of her boyfriend.

Mattie L. Gaines, 28, has pleaded not guilty to charges of murder and a weapon violation in Richmond County Superior Court. Testimony is expected to begin Tuesday.

Gaines was arrested after Boris Dease, 34, was stabbed in the chest at the couple’s Woodlake Drive apartment on Nov. 19, 2010. He died the next day. Investigators said at the time that Gaines was suspected of stabbing Dease during an argument.
