An Augusta couple are facing charges after the woman tried to conceal more than $100 in seafood and beer in her purse at a Deans Bridge Road grocery store, police said.
A loss prevention employee at Kroger, 3126 Deans Bridge Road, told police he saw Marlene Gadson, 41, placing several types of seafood into her purse Sunday afternoon. A man, identified as Harold Johnson, 55, approached Gadson with three beers, which she also concealed in her purse, the report stated.
The couple paid for several items in their shopping cart but failed to pay for the seafood and beer, police said; officers recovered the beers, catfish nuggets, $56 worth of shrimp and $47 worth of lobster tails from Gadson’s purse.
Gadson and Johnson, both of the 2500 block of Hammond Avenue, have been charged with misdemeanor theft by shoplifting.
