Arrest made in pizza restaurant robberies

Walker

A 20-year-old man is facing charges after police linked him to the robberies of two Little Caesars restaurants this month.

Johnny Verdel Walker was arrested after a 10:45 a.m. attempted robbery of the location at 1631 Gordon Highway.

Employees told police the suspect ordered a pizza, then pulled his hands from his pants pocket, dropping a black handgun to the floor.

He then grabbed the gun and demanded cash.

He left empty-handed after the employee told him he was the first customer of the day and the register was empty.

Richmond County sheriff’s Lt. Calvin Chew said deputies chased Walker after he was spotted walking in the 2500 block of Deans Bridge Road.

After Walker’s arrest, police linked him to a June 12 robbery at the Little Caesars store at 2492 Tobacco Road.

In that case, the suspect ordered a pizza before pulling out a pistol and demanding cash. He fled about 11:45 a.m. with money and the pizza.

Walker has been charged with criminal attempt, two counts of armed robbery and two counts of possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime.
