Georgia Regents University police and sheriff’s deputies have arrested two people in the theft of two Honda Accords from a downtown parking deck. One of the vehicles crashed into a pole as the thieves fled. Both Hondas were recovered.
According to a police report, university officers were called to the parking deck on 15th Street about 5:30 a.m. Sunday to file a stolen-vehicle report. The victim told police she had parked her blue Honda Accord in the parking deck at 1:30 a.m. and returned to find it missing. A witness told police he saw three black males and one black woman wander through the parking deck and break into a Honda Civic.
While taking the report, the officer saw a black Honda Accord traveling the wrong direction in the parking deck. The report said the blue Accord stopped and two black men fled on foot.
Police later found the black Accord at R.A. Dent Boulevard and St. Sebastian Way, where it had crashed into a light pole.
GRU police apprehended Khallid Wright, 17, and Deandre Mays, 18, from the blue car near Walton Way and St. Sebastian. Police said they discovered cocaine in Mays’ possession and crack cocaine in the area near Wright.
Wright and Mays were positively identified by the victim and a witness and charged withtheft by taking, entering an automobile and felony possession with intent to distribute.
Police found two empty shell casings in theblack Accord, which had been stolen from a Yorkshire Drive home.
The vehicle’s owner told police he was unaware the vehicle had been taken.
Police are continuing their investigation.
