Former band director denies sexual relationships

  • Follow Crime & courts

A former Butler High School band director accused of having sexual relations with three students took the witness stand Tuesday and denied the existence of any such relationship.

Anthony Shelton, 42, testified as the final witness in his Richmond County Superior Court trial. Earlier, three former students testified that each had had sexual relations with Shelton during the 2007-08 school year.

The jury will begin deliberations after the attorneys’ closing arguments and the judge’s instructions on the law Wednesday morning.

Not Guilty

You can never undo the kind of damage done to a man by these kinds of allegations. Only Mr. Shelton's faith in the Lord Jesus Christ has pulled him through. He has also had the enduring support of his wonderful wife. The criminal justice system tends to put men on trial based on outcry and thankfully the jury set him free. That is some consolation for what he has been through. His attorney Lee Prescott did an excellent job representing him.
