Police are asking for information on a suspicious metal sale earlier this week.

Three 15-foot aluminum lamp posts were sold to an recycling center on June 12.

Metal Theft Investigator Kendall Brown said the recycling center notified him of the suspicious sale immediately. Brown has spoken to the Aiken man who was selling the items, but he said it appears there may be more to the story.

The sheriff’s office is seeking any additional information on the lamp posts or where they might have come from.

Anyone with information can contact the sheriff’s office at (706) 821-1020 or (706) 821-1080.

I don't understand

I don't understand something....why would the center buy it if they felt it was suspicious?

Because they got identifying

Because they got identifying info on the seller, who can now be tracked and arrested if they can prove the posts were stolen. Had they refused him, he would have sold them elsewhere or chopped them up into unrecognizable chunks; and we would not have the opportuntiy to nab a potential thief.
