Clyde Durant Adams, 22, of East Hale Street, was arrested about 3:40 p.m. on charges of attempted armed robbery, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of a firearm by a first offender probationer.

About noon, Adams approached a man on Second Street. Adams brandished a revolver and told Dunbar to hand over everything he had, an incident report said.

When the man said he didn’t have anything, Adams fled the scene and was later found at Telfair and Forsythe streets, the report said.

Adams told authorities that he did not have a gun, but instead had a pole in his hand, the report said. Adams also said he was going to fight the victim, not rob him.

Last year, Adams was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and a misdemeanor count of simple battery.

Why was this predator not behind bars?

Why was this predator not behind bars? Was he another Augusta Judge Bleeding Heart, soft-on-crime, plea-bargain probation case who was given a love tap on the wrist and then released to again walk the streets and prey on others? How does Mayor Deke and Sheriff Roundtree expect to clean up Augusta's metro-crime when these vicious repeat offenders are free and lurking around downtown?

First offenders get a chance!

I guess he is a second offender now so maybe Pitchforks wish will come true! Let's hope so.

The way this guy looks he wouldn't need a gun to get my stuff! LOL!

One more

for the taxpayers' pocket books - put those bums to work, make them earn a living behind bars, if it's nothing but knitting pot holders. Don't bother with air conditioning - costs money. (People in the '50s were in hot buildings at the mills, I could see them slaving with only open windows for air.) Those criminals get off too easy be it first time offenders or being locked up the next time. The chain gang - the chain gang - THAT needs to come back. Bet they'll think twice once they have their freedom again, legally. It's a pity that we as honest citizens have to fear for our lives every time we step outside our door. (Inside our doors we can kill them if they dare mess with us!) The law needs to toughen up on these gangsters!!!
