Augusta man convicted in home invasion gets 25 years

A man who broke into an Augusta home and fired five gunshots at a man living there was convicted of multiple crimes this week.

Richmond County Superior Court Judge James G. Blanchard Jr. sentenced Donzell E. Hazel, 23, to 25 years in prison followed by eight years’ probation after a jury convicted him of aggravated assault, burglary and a weapons violation Tuesday.

On Nov. 15, 2011, Hazel broke into the Davis Mill Road home of Stephon Crawford, according to court documents. Hazel fired five shots at Crawford but did not hit him.
