Augusta murder suspect surrenders

An Augusta man wanted for murder surrendered Friday.

Darrian Antwonn Wil­liams, 24, of the 1600 block of McCauley Street, was arrested at the Augusta-Richmond County Law Enforcement Center shortly after 3 p.m. Friday, a Richmond County Sheriff’s office news release said.

Williams was wanted by investigators in the death of Larry Bernard Elam, 31, on Thursday.

Witnesses told authorities that Williams and Elam had been arguing when Williams drew a gun and shot Elam in the neck area, authorities said Wednesday. Elam was taken to Georgia Regents Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

Williams was booked on charges of murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and two counts of cruelty to children in the third degree, the release said.
