  • Follow Crime & courts

Two men accused of setting an Augusta home on fire while the owner and her pets were inside were indicted Monday.

The Richmond County grand jury returned an indictment accusing Justin B. Hall, 23, and Kyle D. Capps, 24, of arson in the first degree and two counts of aggravated cruelty to animals.

Hall and Capps, both of North Augusta, are suspected of setting Janice Tierney’s home in the 600 block of Cambridge Drive on fire the morning of April 13.

Tierney told officers she was asleep on the couch when the fire started. According to the indictment, her miniature pinscher, Ellie, and her Chihuahua-jack russell terrier, Bella, were seriously disfigured by the fire.

"Justin Blake Hall, 23, arrested this week for burning down his ex-girlfriend’s Augusta home while the girl’s mother was still inside, a fire that killed two of the homeowner’s four dogs."
"... two of her pets, but a 10-year-old dog and 8-month-old puppy were killed. Her daughter was not home."
