The NFL and college football jerseys of the late John Small, of Augusta, were stolen in a residential burglary, Richmond County sheriff’s investigators said Friday, and police are asking the public’s help in locating them.
According to a news release, the memorabilia was taken between Monday and Tuesday from a residence in the 2000 block of Bridgewater Drive.
Small, a star athlete at Richmond Academy and The Citadel, was the No. 1 draft choice of the Atlanta Falcons in 1970. He played defensive tackle and linebacker with Atlanta through 1972 and with the Detroit Lions in 1973-1974.
He died in 2012.
According to police, the missing jerseys were a blue Citadel and red Atlanta jersey both bearing No. 66. A blue Detriot jersey was also taken.

SEAHAWKS: Defensive end Bruce Irvin was suspended for the first four games of the 2013 season after the league announced he violated the NFL policy on performance-enhancing substances.
Irvin will be eligible to participate in all off-season activities and preseason practices and games.
Irvin was expected to start at defensive end with Chris Clemons likely to miss the start of the season while recovering from knee surgery.
JETS: Running back Mike Goodson is facing drug and weapons charges after he was found in a car with an acquantance early Friday on Interstate 80 in New Jersey.
According to state police, Goodson was a passenger in a vehicle driven by 31-year-old Garat Evans.
State Police Sgt. Adam Grossman said both men were charged with marijuana possession, possession of drug paraphernalia and weapons offenses stemming from a 45-caliber semi-automatic handgun found in the vehicle. Grossman wouldn’t say whether either man was the registered owner of the gun.
