Scene from Broad Street brawl shows person on sidewalk being stomped

Richmond County sheriff’s Lt. Calvin Chew said the video, which shows multiple altercations near the front of the New Moon Cafe in the 900 block of Broad Street, was just brought to the attention of investigators after someone found it on the video-sharing Web site.

The video shows several men and women stomping and beating one another with fists near the cafe on Broad Street. Several people can be seen standing around the fight videotaping the incident on their cell phones. The 2-minute video ends when the crowd scatters after sounds like gunshots can be heard.

Chew said police are currently looking into the incident to see if any reports were filed or if witnesses can be found.

The YouTube poster lists the time as 2:31 a.m. April 27.

Now, please tell me why this

Now, please tell me why this article has all this information, but doesn't include the information to find this video? If the police WANT the public to give them information about it, then why not show it? I really don't understand. And, I'm giving the writer the benefit of the doubt, because maybe there actually IS a good reason for not posting the YouTube information for us to see it.

Yes, I see the link now.

Yes, I see the link now. Thanks. I actually just saw the link on, of all places, a national sports message board website! People were talking about seeing it, how disgusted they were with it, and then went on to say many disparaging things about Augusta, specifically downtown Augusta. I saw many horrific things in the video, but the one that sticks out the most, to me, was the one where an innocent young couple were standing in front of the store/restaurant, clutching each other, and were obviously in a panic and afraid that they could easily have had the attention, and violence, turned on them.
Despite the violence and language, I think I'm going to show this to my teenage children. I want them to see why it is imperative to their welfare and safety to avoid places like this late at night. As the old saying goes, NOTHING good happens after midnight!
BTW, I hope Sheriff Roundtree catches all the scum involved!

how about this RCSO, round up

how about this RCSO, round up some of these idiots and then pressure them to find out who brutally attacked the people on Riverwalk. that was a true crime, not a bunch of morons fighting in the middle of Broad St.

Oakland

"Downtown Augusta has now officially become Oakland, CA".

Or Detroit, or Atlanta. The fact is - we're not so big that nothing can be done; but I truley believe there are some in this community who want to do nothing, and who will do everything in their power to excuse this type of behavior.

Character Revealed

Well you see the type of people who are involved in this mess. If they want to be treated differently maybe they should act better than animals.

Just

an isolated incident. Probably some college kids letting off a little steam after exams or just harmless debate over the Syrian issue that got a little heated.

Damage control

It's terrible the damage control the business mentioned will have to play after reading this article, especially considering the business in question will NEVER be open in the hours this incident occurred. I understand that it was perhaps used as a reference point, but maybe the name of the building could have done the same. I guess that might give someone more well known a black eye though..

Pathetic!

To me the bystanders are just as bad! Why did nobody bother to call 9-1-1 to report this un-civilized event? Plenty of people holding up phones to film but nobody had the civil idea of calling 9-1-1. That's Augusta for you!

When We Grow Up

I shall repeat my earlier statements about violence - America is a violent society - we embrace it, we are entertained by it and we promote it.

Why seem so shocked when nonsense like this Broad Street fight takes place? Americans "solve" their problems with fists and bullets and missiles.

Why even investigate this brawl? They were ALL fighting. No one went to the police as a victim to press charges. None of "the beat-up" or "the bruised" have complained. Let them nurse their wounds and continue to live their mediocre lives.

As Gene Roddenberry said, "We are an incredible species, we're still just a child creature. We're still being nasty to each other around the world - and all children go thru those phases. But when we grow up, man, we're really going to be something. And we're going to do it, too."

I think that says it all - "when we grow up". Violence in American society most certainly defines our ignorant, childish behavior.

Why go downtown?

Brawls outside business establishments, muggings on riverwalk, gunshots during late night First Friday, groups of trouble walking the downtown area... Why would anyone go downtown? An Ellis Square in Savannah type concept would be nice and bring people downtown except for the lack of safety aspect. So sad.

The 3 missing questions. 1.)

The 3 missing questions.

1.) Why did it take someone to post a film clip on the YouTube about a massive downtown Augusta brawl in the 900 Block of Broad St. for the POLICE to learn about it?

2.) Has Operation Thunder drawn on law enforcement manpower resources to the point that normal duties and patrols are being affected?

3.) Since everything is filtered through the Sheriffs PR office now, will the answer be a creatable one, or face saving one?

Action, not words are needed..

Tell me one parent that would watch THIS brawl video or read this story and think that this is where they want to take their family for dinner or time together one evening. Things like this do more lasting damage than can be known.

Downtown will suffer more now, and its a self inflicted wound I am afraid. If after the shootings last year there had been some serious action taken, maybe this would not have happened. I offered to help to a security assessment last year and put some plans in place that could be acted on and was told that it was "handled" (guess I should have charged $500K for the plan and maybe I would have been taken up on my offer).

All that was done was some really cool artsy Andy Warhol like posters were printed and passed out, there were some meetings and yet NOTHING was actually done to address the lack of security and safety in the CBD. Everyone was at these meetings, telling us how safe downtown was based on stats, well the brawl would never had been a part of those stats without the video.

I think that talk is pretty much all most folks will do again, and that next week this will be forgotten by most except in the minds of the potential customers that will not risk their personal safety to travel to a place that allows things like this to happen.

The time for talk is over.

If the community does not see some real action taken, this will have another chilling effect on private sector growth downtown.

This is an example of what you get when democrats runs a city for very long. Augusta, you are getting what you voted for. I would be selling and getting out, someone will buy your house and turn it into section 8.

You would think the Sheriff or Mayor would make a public statement of some sort about this event, wouldn't you? The AC should push the issue.
