Man surrenders in fatal shooting

A man wanted in a fatal shooting at the Red Carpet Inn surrendered to police late Tuesday.

Investigators had been searching for Jabali Jerome Howard, 29. He was charged with one count of murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

According to Lt. Calvin Chew, deputies were called about 12:30 a.m. to the Gordon Highway motel, where they found that Courtney L. Bell, 23, had been shot.

Bell, of the 3300 block of Tate Road, was taken to Georgia Regents Medical Center.

She died Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Georgia Department of Corrections, Howard was sentenced in 2010 to five years in prison for cruelty to children, one year for simple battery and one year for obstruction of a law enforcement officer. He was released in January 2011.
