James Eric Gibbons, 17, of Sasser Lane, and Evan Terry Ramsey, also 17, of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, were charged with armed robbery and are in the Columbia County Detention Center without bond, according to sheriff’s Capt. Steve Morris.

The clerk of the Circle K at 403 S. Belair Road told authorities that a man, later identified as Gibbons, entered the store about 1:40 a.m., showed he had a handgun and demanded the money from the register, according to a sheriff’s office incident report. The robber left with the money.

A deputy, who was pulling up to the gas pumps as the clerk called 911 and another person saw Gibbons leave the store with a red bandana over his face and walk briskly toward Belair Road, according to the report.

As deputies were en route to the store, one spotted the Honda Civic that Gibbons was seen leaving in. The car had no tag. The driver, later identified as Ramsey, led deputies on a brief chase, which ended on Casa Linda Drive, according to Morris.

Ramsey was arrested, and Gibbons ran. A sheriff’s office dog found Gibbons hiding under a nearby porch, Morris said.

A Ruger .22-caliber handgun and cash from the store were found on the passenger-side floorboard of the Honda, which had been reported stolen from North Augusta on April 19, he said.

In addition to armed robbery, Gibbons is charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and theft by receiving stolen property. Ramsey also faces charges of theft by receiving, driving without a license, reckless driving, and fleeing and attempting to elude, according to Morris.

Ammunition Shortage

Will the scarcity of .22-caliber ammunition these days, I wonder if the gun was loaded?

Now they have gone and done it.

The time in the slammer will make for unexcused absences from school. I'm afraid missing that many days may jeopardize them graduating this May. Looks like summer school for these two.

Two 17 year old losers,

Two 17 year old losers, future welfare and food stamp recipients, probably future killers, and sperm donors for more welfare recipients.

What should happen to them won't happen to them. And they will dwell in the house of the taxpayer forever.

Apparently since he knows them so well. Isn't it enough to say they are gun wielding thieves than to label them with biased profiling? You are not affecting their image at all but you are sure ruining yours.

Thugs come to Columbia County

India has it right, amputate their hands and they will steal no more. The thugs have no value for human life...they take from hard working people so they can exist as the parasites that they are. Now we get to feed them and care for their every need for ten years...oh wait...we already are doing that, That's why they have all the time in the world to steal from us, our tax dollars feed the parasites as they continue to multiply and the sorry government and apartment developments ship them in to our nice neighborhoods so they can steal even more from us!

I Guess RC Sheriff

must be forcing them out of his territory. Coming to Columbia County to pull off a robbery is not the smartest move!.

Work?? Why should we work, when we can steal transportation, and rob? And apparently kill someone, and not be in jail. I bet both of their moms are so proud of their cherubs. Who is it that keeps voting these really good posts "thumbs down"?

Hoopshype - Most likely and a very good question why?

According to Augusta Crime.com,
Eric Gibbons shot Martez Stephon Davis, but Verdre Lamont Scott was charged for the murder?

http://augustacrime.com/rcso-robbery-related-gunfight-led-to-teens-death/

This incident also points out why more gun control laws don't work.
All this shooting and weapons and NOT ONE of these people was of LEGAL AGE to own or possess a firearm.

Criminals don't obey laws, therefore logically gun control laws ONLY disarm honest citizens, not criminals.

BTW

Running James Eric Gibbons name in the AC database does not show any charges for ANY crime???? there is a 61 y/o and he would have been 16 in 2010. So unless the age was accidentally inverted that is not the same person.

No stolen vehicle or other felonies listed?

Did he slip though the cracks or was there a typo in the ARC or AC database?
