Man wanted in theft of pickup

An Augusta man who was taking care of an 84-year-old stroke victim is now wanted for stealing the family’s pickup truck, Richmond County sheriff’s deputies reported Sunday.

Henry Shelton, 52, of 4233 Windsor Spring Road, was last seen about 6:30 p.m. Friday at 728 Aumond Road, the home of Dorothy Sandifer.

Sandifer told police Shelton came over as usual to help her care for her husband, who had recently suffered a stroke and was too heavy for the 85-year-old woman to lift.

After 30 minutes, Sandifer said Shelton told her that he needed to take a friend somewhere and would be gone 15 minutes.

Shelton never returned and when Sandifer woke the next morning, she said she noticed the keys to the family’s white Chevrolet pickup truck were missing from its wall hook. The truck was gone, too.

Shelton wife’s told police her husband has not been home since Friday

Shelton is described as black, 6 feet tall and 278 pounds.
