A 22-year-old Augusta man who reportedly punched a burglar in the face Sunday when he caught the thief inside his mobile home let the bloodied suspect escape because he “blacked out” and “did not think to call the sheriff’s office,” according to a police report.

Mark Neal Cook told Richmond County deputies that around 4:45 a.m. Sunday he arrived at his home in the 1100 block of Sadie Drive to find a red Mazda 6 in his driveway, the front door to his residence open and a man carrying a TV down the hallway.

Cook said he then punched the suspect in face with his right hand, immediately blacked out and did not remember what happened until he walked to the Waffle House at the corner of Gordon Highway and North Leg Road to meet some friends.

When he left his house, Cook said, the suspect was lying on the floor bleeding from the face. When Cook returned with his friends, the suspect was gone, along with most of Cook’s possessions.

Close to three hours later, Cook checked into University Hospital to get his hand examined and said he did not call the authorities right away because he “did not think to call sheriff’s office.”

The Mazda6 reportedly had South Carolina plates. The suspect is described as a dark-skinned black man, 6 feet tall, 160 pounds, with facial hair.

(Sounds like one of those stories of lawyers asking questions in a court room) "Doc, how do you know the victim was dead after you did your autopsy?"

Lawyer: Doctor, before you
Unpublished

Lawyer: Doctor, before you performed the autopsy, did you check for a pulse?
Witness: No.
Lawyer: Did you check for blood pressure?
Witness: No.
Lawyer: Did you check for breathing?
Witness: No.
Lawyer: So, then it is possible that the patient was alive when you began the autopsy?
Witness: No.
Lawyer: How can you be so sure, Doctor?
Witness: Because his brain was sitting on my desk in a jar.
Lawyer: But could the patient have still been alive nevertheless?
Witness: It is possible that he could have been alive and practicing law somewhere.

he punched the guy hard enough to knock him out, but he didn't drop the TV while getting punched? That is one tough dude!

.
His HAND, seriously, his HAND?

Are you kidding me? The docs should have been looking a bit higher on his body.

A hint.... just above the neck!
