Shoplifter tries to hide meat in dog food bag

  • Follow Crime & courts

A Food Lion employee says a woman tried to shoplift meat by filling a dog food bag with it Saturday.

According to a Richmond County sheriff’s report, the employee watched a 40-year-old woman try to hide a package of meat in the waistband of her pants. Another employee said the dog food bag was filled with meat, and that the dog food had been dumped on a shelf in the dog food aisle.

When confronted by employees, the woman removed the meat from her waistband, abandoned the buggy and left the store.

"Why did they let her leave after

dumping a bag of dog food?"

.
My (admittedly) limited understanding of the law would have me believe that they would have to have accosted her outside the store in order to arrest or detain her.

If I'm wrong, someone will set me straight in a hurry, I'm sure.

I doubt there's an APB. What does the age or race matter?

Bodhisattva really?

Whenever a crime is committed a detailed description helps the police apprehend a suspect. It kind of helps to know if the person was male or female, their race, young or old, and body type. I assume this was reported in haste thus the missing details. It also helps to know this info so other stores can be on the look out for the possible meat bandit. As to why she was not detained by employees or even the police called which we can only guess when since the story is so vague that is a good question.

Did it even say Food Lion was pressing charges or even searching for the person? The police report was probably just so they would have a record for the waste. My guess is, judging from the history of the Chronicle's posts, is that some people are hoping it will be a minority.

My guess

My guess is they found the bag of meat after they let her go with a tresspass warning over the extra inches packed in her waist.

''Did it even say Food Lion

''Did it even say Food Lion was pressing charges or even searching for the person?"

Well seeing how the article is incomplete, I would guess that information was probably suppose to be understood since a police report was written.

"The police report was probably just so they would have a record for the waste."

Possible, but most times this is taken care of with an in-house incident report.

"My guess is, judging from the history of the Chronicle's posts, is that some people are hoping it will be a minority."

Glad that is just your prejudice opinion. Most people aren't hoping, it's usually a given.

in the American vocabulary. Very negative and demeans the less fortunate. Loss Prevention is a much more positive term. PC rules!!! Loss Prevention goals (cost effective management) now rule in retail. Is it worth the effort to catch and prosecute? As Hillary so aptly stated, "who really cares". The paying customers will make up the loss. Store employees will not have to run. Crime reports will drop. Police can stay in their cruisers. Money and merchandise will be redistributed to the needy.

You used to have to leave the premises...

Now all you have to do is conceal it and you can be arrested in the store.

Bod, as I said "Glad that is

Bod, as I said "Glad that is just your prejudice opinion. Most people aren't hoping" either one way or the other. People ask because they are curious, and please tell us which race is the minority for shoplifting?

"Overall, blacks and Hispanics were no more likely than whites to steal merchandise. However, when race and gender were examined by subcategory, Hispanic females stole the most, shoplifting at more than seven times the rate of white females."

Wow

Nothing like assuming certain posters were "wishing" for a certain race, while libweenies were openly wishing for a southern hick Boston terrorist. Lordy, if the terrorist had been a conservative black man, you would've witnessed a Guinness Book of World Records panty wetting!

My guess is that somebody is being cynical.

More than one liberal/progressive went on the record following the Boston bombings to express the hope that the bombers were "white" Americans.

That blade cuts both ways.

"Who is the minority in Richmond County?"

I'm certain that was intended as a rhetorical question.
