Augusta sex assault suspect surrenders

A sex offender accused of sex crimes against his neighbors has been located.

According to a Richmond County Sheriff’s Office news release, Johnny Baker III turned himself in at the Richmond County jail Friday. He faces charges of rape, aggravated sodomy, aggravated battery, kidnapping and first-degree burglary.

Police said Baker, 38, entered a home about 2:30 a.m. April 20 in the Mars Trailer Park, in the 3600 block of Deans Bridge Road, and physically assaulted a man and sexually assaulted a woman. Baker also lives at the park.

Baker has a history of offenses including his conviction for sexual battery in 2008.
