Lorenzo Curry: Man is accused of falsely presenting himself as a Georgia Power employee.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office opened an investigation after receiving anonymous complaints on its tip line. From the complaints, police learned that a man named Lorenzo Curry, also known as “Zo,” was falsely presenting himself as a Georgia Power representative who would restore electricity for a cash fee.

According to a news release, an investigator contacted Curry, claiming to be someone whose electricity had been disconnected for outstanding bills. Curry told the investigator he would restore service after receiving the account number and a cash fee.

The plain-clothes investigator met Curry and gave him a nonexistent account number and $125 in exchange for an account reactivation confirmation number. Curry told the investigator that service would be restored in one hour by calling Georgia Power and providing the confirmation number, the sheriff’s office reported.

The investigation revealed the number to be false.

Georgia Power security investigators told police the suspect has never been an employee. All Georgia Power payments on accounts are handled either at the business or over the phone by finance representatives.

Curry, 31, was taken into custody Tuesday and charged with criminal attempt by deception. He was served with an outstanding felony probation violation warrant.

Police ask that anyone who has been a victim of the scam contact Investigator Kendall Brown at (706) 821-1440 or e-mail kbrown@augustaga.gov.

How did he know?

I wonder how he knew which addresses had their power off. Did he cruise around town after dark and see whose house had no lights burning?

Oh yeh, like I'd give this

Oh yeh, like I'd give this guy $125 cash for a "confirmation number". I wouldn't give this guy cash money to turn my power back on even if he had a lightning bolt coming out of his bottom.
