THOMSON — Police used tracking dogs and a state patrol helicopter Friday to search a wooded area of McDuffie County for a multicounty theft suspect.

Department of Natural Resources officers said they spotted Jason Wayne Broome and a female companion about 8:30 a.m. driving along Ridge Road between Georgia Highway 80 and Wrightsboro Road.

They said Broome jumped from his vehicle and fled into nearby woods. The woman was taken into custody. Later police found a car that they think Broome had stolen.

After 10 hours of searching, including leads about Broome's whereabouts in Norwood and Gibson that didn't pan out, officials called it a day about 7 p.m.

Broome, a medium-build white male, is suspected in car break-ins, automobile theft and financial-card fraud cases in McDuffie, Warren and Columbia counties, and in North Augusta.

He was last seen wearing a light blue or white shirt and jeans. He might be armed, police say, and is considered dangerous.

Anyone with information can call McDuffie County dispatch at (706) 595-2145 or 911.

I wonder how the Emperor and

I wonder how the Emperor and his Court Jester would recommend defending youself against this gentleman if he showed up knocking on your front door, or climbing in through a window. What would be best, and best please our overseers who certainly know better than us plebians? Should we have a baseball bat handy, or perhaps an iron skillet? Should we have a background check and be licensed before we can use these weapons?

@albertoli

Maybe since this guy is being pursued for theft, this falls under the Emperor's "distribution of wealth" theory and no action would be required on our parts...other than letting that distribution happen...you know, like good citizens should.

You gotta admire that... A real conservative. I'll bet you'll even police your brass afterward.

The LEOs had good descriptions and were on the lookout. The suspects/perps/stupes should have known that they needed to travel under cover of darkness.

Picking up brass

Hang around reloaders, we police everyones brass ... After half a mag taking a look to see why the problem isn't solved is a good idea.

Caught?

Has this guy been caught yet? There has been no new information posted and there were a lot of nervous people in the area of the search. Was his girlfriend arrested or just questioned?
