THOMSON -- A suspect in car break-ins in McDuffie County is also wanted for questioning in Columbia County and North Augusta, authorities said Thursday.
Law enforcement officers are searching for Jason Wayne Broome, 32, of Thomson. The McDuffie County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public’s help in its search for Broome, suspected of breaking into vehicles in the Belle Meade Country Club subdivision and taking a variety of items, bank cards, checks and financial information March 29 and March 30.
“We want to talk to him,” said Sheriff’s Office Investigator Al Reeves. A superior court bench warrant and a state probation warrant have been issued for Broome, the investigator said.
Broome is suspected of entering a truck parked at the Belle Meade County Club and entering two vehicles at a residence on Surrey Road in Belle Meade.
Broome, whom police believe to be armed, is a white male, of medium build, with brown hair and hazel eyes. He is possibly driving a dark colored 2010 Ford Mustang or a burgundy, 1990s Oldsmobile Alero with a broken right window.
According to Reeves, Broome is suspected of taking $2,900 in items from the three cars, laptop computers and attempting to make a purchase of more than $300 at WalMart with a bank card, which was declined by the bank. He is also suspected of using a bankcard to purchase gasoline from a local gas station and attempting to purchase food at a local restaurant.
Reeves added that Broome is a person of interest in a couple of cases that his department is working and he is wanted by the Warrenton Police Department for entering an automobile.
McDuffie County Sheriff’s Office Maj. Ronnie Williamson said Broome is also a person of interest in entering automobiles and financial card fraud in Columbia County and North Augusta. “There is a multi-jurisdictional effort to get Broome into custody,” said Williamson.
Authorities encourage anyone with knowledge of Broome’s whereabouts to contact the McDuffie County Sheriff’s Office at (706) 595-2145. Information can be given anonymously.
