Car lot robbery suspect tied to 2 earlier holdups

Armed man in mask holds up auto lot, flees

Police have linked the suspect from an armed robbery Tuesday on Greene Street to two other armed robberies since March 29.

According to a police report, Imani Player, 30, was browsing to buy a car at Green City Auto Center, 1116 Greene St., around 1:30 p.m. when she told an employee she was going to a bank and would return to make a purchase.

After she left, police said, Leon Player, 39, entered the business wearing a mask and armed with a handgun. Police said he demanded cash and fled with it.

The employee chased the man on foot to the bus station, where he fled in a burgundy minivan driven Imani Player, his wife, police said.

Deputies stopped the car on Walton Way.

According to Richmond County sheriff’s Sgt. Monica Belser, Leon Player, of the 2500 block of Drayton Street, admitted to robbing Microtel Inn & Suites, at 2176 Gordon Highway, around 12:50 a.m. Tuesday and Days Inn, at 3320 Deans Bridge Road, on March 29.

He faces three counts of armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. Imani Player, of the same address, is being held on warrants from the Harlem Police Department.
