Richmond County sheriff’s deputies are looking for a man in his early 20s who robbed an Augusta resident at gunpoint of a $55 flip phone and $100 in cash early Saturday.

The victim reported that he was accosted as he entered his home in the 800 block of Forest Ridge Road. He told deputies that a black man jumped from behind some bushes, pointed a handgun in his face and demanded his money and phone.

When the 21-year-old victim obliged, the robber hit him across the left eyebrow with the weapon, leaving a deep cut.

Deputies searched the area and found a black cell phone, which they think could be linked to the suspect, who was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and beanie cap, dark shirt and blue jeans.

Hope He is caught

Someone willing to do this will continue to do it again. I just hope he is caught before he kills somebody.

He's probably a revolving door, catch-and-release repeat

He's probably a revolving door, catch-and-release repeat offender on his typical Augusta judge-granted probation.

I hope if he does it again

I hope if he does it again the victim is armed and puts one right between his eyes. He's asking for it.

Unpublished

So the victim obliged the robber but was still pistol whipped by the perp? That's nice. Is that the perp's way of saying "thank you"?

I don't get that. You've got the guy's money and his phone and whacking him with the hand gun isn't going to stop him notifying the police or facilitate your get away. So what's the point? Pure, gratuitous violence for no reason is the only answer which occurs to me.

Whatever happened to the chain gang?

Picking up debris along the road is terrific for non-violent offenders but what about an actual chain gang for the violent ones? Let's see how tough they are then!

I'd bet he gets probation,

I'd bet he gets probation, and in Augusta, probation is a joke. Almost like a reward in my opinion.
