Man injured fleeing police traffic stop

A man took the wrong turn over a wall while running from a traffic stop and ended up not only with police charges but a few broken bones.

According to a news release from sheriff’s Investigator Cheryl Wright, 27-year-old Cedrick Johnson was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu on Gordon Highway when he pulled up to an Operation Rolling Thunder checkpoint near Holloway Drive.

Police said Johnson pulled over and got out of his vehicle. When officers went to talk to him, Johnson ran and deputies chased him on foot. Johnson reached a bridge, jumped over the concrete wall and fell about 40 feet.

He suffered several broken bones in his ribs, leg and arm, and was taken to Georgia Regents Medical Center for treatment.

He is charged with driving under the influence with an open container and a suspended license.
