According to a sheriff’s report, a truck driver told police that when he arrived at 1231 Gordon Highway to hook up his tractor to his trailer, he saw two men in a small Toyota or Mazda pickup with a large red barrel and a pump in the back speed away from between two parked tractor trailers.

The driver said all tractor trailers in the yard had two full tanks of fuel so they can “hook up and go.” Four trucks were each discovered to be missing one tank of fuel.

Old School Fuel theft

It is simple and quick as the pump allows.

At almost $4 Gallon, surely truckers are going to be seeing more of these type of thefts.

A 55 gallon barrel and a 20 g/pm pump will make quick emptying of a Unlocked big rig fuel tank.

In 1974 during the Oil embargo police arrested a lot truck lot thieves regularly. Many were pretty banged up, even before the police arrived to help them into the police car from off the ground.☺

Then you have the thieves

Then you have the thieves that can't differentiate between the fuel tank and the waste holding tank on motorhomes.... heheheh

Locks

Don't they make locking fuel tank caps? With diesel over $4 a gallon, the big riggers had better lock up their tanks.

Locking gas caps will deter

Locking gas caps will deter casual thieves, but not those determined to drain the tank.
