Firefighters were called to the home of Herbert Morgan at 403 Aumond Road just before 7 p.m. Morgan said the fire apparently started in a front bedroom and spread rapidly, but he did not know the cause.

Morgan said he was watching television in another room when he was warned of the blaze by his 7-year-old grandson.

“He was saying, ‘Let’s get out of here, let’s get out,’ so we got out,” Morgan said. “It came up real fast.”

Morgan escaped unharmed, but firefighters on the scene said his grandson was treated for a minor burn. Fire officials were still trying to determine the cause of the blaze Monday evening.

Morgan said the interior appeared to be a complete loss.

“I’ve been here 35 years,” he said. “I’m really going to miss it.”
