Augusta man charged in heroin incident

A 5-year-old boy was able to alert a stranger to call 911 when his father passed out from using heroin, according to an incident report.

Richmond County sheriff’s deputies were called to the 2300 block of Lumpkin Road, where they found William Hugh Hixon, 27, “unresponsive with a hypodermic needle in his lap” in the driver’s seat, the report says.

Paramedics said Hixon admitted to injecting himself with heroin, according to the report. He was arrested and charged with deprivation of a minor.

The boy was released to his mother, the report said.
