Officers were notified Tuesday of the theft of the Risen Lord statue from the Church of the Good Shepherd, 2230 Walton Way.
The Rev. Robert Fain said the church is trying to find humor in the incident by asking church members to post biblical passages on their Facebook pages to describe the situation.
“I think our response is not really shock or anger, but bemusement,” he said.
The statue, which was ripped from an outside wall, is made of fiberglass with a resin coating and is gold with white worn spots on the head and right arm.
There might be damage to the back where the statue was removed.
Fain said he doesn’t want to assume it was stolen just yet. He said it could be
the result of a prank. Regardless, he hopes to see it returned. March 31 is Easter.
