A jury will return to deliberations Friday in the trial of an Augusta man accused of taking part in a 2011 slaying.

Chad Walker, 22, has pleaded not guilty in Richmond County Superior Court to charges of murder and weapon violations in the Oct. 9, 2011, slaying of Buchanan Marshall. The 29-year-old was shot to death while sitting in his truck at Jennings Homes, a public housing complex off Olive Road.

The jury deliberated for hours Thursday before Judge Michael N. Annis sent them home for the night.

Walker and Mikell L. Thomas, then 15, were arrested in Marshall’s slaying. Thomas pleaded guilty last week to a reduced charge of attempted armed robbery and was sentenced to 20 years in prison. He was among the witnesses this week.
