A former employee at the Children’s Hospital of Georgia has been indicted on charges he sexually molested patients.

Bernard Edwards, 56, of the 2800 block of Pepperdine Drive in Hephzibah should be arraigned next month in Richmond County Superior Court on charges of aggravated sexual battery, sexual battery against a hospital patient and simple battery.

According to the indictment returned Monday, Edwards is accused of sexually assaulting a girl Nov. 14, and another patient between Jan. 15 and Jan. 31, 2010. A third incident allegedly occurred Jan. 28, 2012, when Edwards is accused of inappropriately hugging and touching a boy.

According to a statement released by Georgia Regents University, Edwards was a mental health technician. He was fired Jan. 8 for gross misconduct, said spokeswoman Christen Carter.

Because this is a pending criminal matter, no further comment concerning the case will be issued at this time, according to the hospital statement.

Edwards was arrested Jan. 8 and charged with one count of child molestation. He was released on bond Jan. 11.

During an investigation of the most recent complaint, officers found that other complaints had been made against Edwards, District Attorney Ashley Wright said in an e-mail.

A grand jury arrest warrant has been issued for the additional charges against him. The case is assigned to Judge J. David Roper.

Geez

I was under the impression that child molestation was no longer against our new non-moral America. I read someplace that was considered a normal natural behavior of modern humans.

Jan. 2010 to Jan. 2012 is a pretty big gap.

IF guilty one has to wonder how many unreported cases there were in the two unaccounted years.

I do not apologize for the way I feel about this: Take him straight to a chair that has electrical current running through it and strap him in and turn up the voltage. That is the only cure for these kind of people.

This is sick, just sick.

I wonder if he will get a longer sentence than the guy who tossed the dogs into the canal.

I smell a lawsuit

MCG, GRU, well, whatever they are calling themselves this week better break out the check book. They failed to report the previous incidents despite the fact there are laws in place that require suspected abuse to be reported to the police. If they had done what they were supposed to, this walking pile of DNA would not have had the chance to continue molesting other children.

@Dixieman - Watch what you

@Dixieman - Watch what you wish for. Sat on jury for a huge drug case a year back. The evidence would fill a dump truck. One guy on the jury held out (race issue) and it was the most frustrating experience of my life. Juror wouldn't discuss what he believed, just didn't believe the dud was guilty. I was embarrassed for the guy. And no, this isn't/wasn't about one man's opinion, it was clearly related to the color of skin. We are so far from Dr King's dream unfortunately. I hate it, I just hate it, however, we did it to ourselves.

FOUND INNOCENT June 18th, 2014

While I am not taking sides on the verdict

It is only fitting we acknowledge the man was found NOT GUILTY.

Quoting AC 6-18-2014
"After deliberating for less than an hour, the Richmond County Superior Court jury reached not-guilty verdicts..."
