Augusta man dies from bar fight injury

A man hospitalized after a fight outside a Gordon Highway club last week has died.

Richmond County Deputy Coroner Kenneth Boose said Phillip Boynton, 28, of D Court in Olmstead Homes, was pronounced dead at Georgia Regents Medical Center at 9:44 p.m. Monday after suffering a traumatic brain injury. Autopsy results are pending.

Police were called to Pure Platinum, 2064 Gordon Highway, at 3:47 a.m. March 10 where they discovered Boynton severely injured

Witnesses said Boynton had been escorted from the club for being intoxicated and arguing with patrons. In the parking lot he tried to start a fight with a patron, who struck Boynton on the head.

The patron, who has not been identified, was interviewed and released.
