Richmond County Deputy Coroner Kenneth Boose said Phillip Boynton, 28, of D Court in Olmstead Homes, was pronounced dead at Georgia Regents Medical Center at 9:44 p.m. Monday after suffering a traumatic brain injury. Autopsy results are pending.

Police were called to Pure Platinum, 2064 Gordon Highway, at 3:47 a.m. March 10 where they discovered Boynton severely injured

Witnesses said Boynton had been escorted from the club for being intoxicated and arguing with patrons. In the parking lot he tried to start a fight with a patron, who struck Boynton on the head.

The patron, who has not been identified, was interviewed and released.

Charges have not been filed, but investigators said the investigation is ongoing. They continue to interview witnesses in the case.

Because he was a vote?

Because he was a vote? Nonetheless, condolences to the family; I'm sure they loved him.

I agree

Not saying anyone deserves to die but I thought convicted felons were barred from public housing...

Sorry for the lost nachothatguy26

but I just got to ask, "if your uncle was a changed man. He was a great father, uncle, just an all around great man."

Why would something like this make it into the news?

Boynton had been escorted from the club for being intoxicated and arguing with patrons. In the parking lot he tried to start a fight with a patron

CHANGED MAN

It doesn't sound like he has changed very much or he wouldn't have been escourted out of the club for being drunk and fighting. Sounds like he picked the wrong guy to show his changed side to. Sympathy to the family but it sounds like he precipitated the whole mess. Had only himself to blame.

I hope this is investigated

I hope this is investigated thoroughly. It certainly sounds like the puncher did nothing wrong. But there's a whole group of people who like pushing a drunks button in the hopes of him/her starting a fight. They get a perverse thrill and a feeling of power by kicking a drunk's tail.

Some even go out bar-hopping for the express purpose of finding a drunk to jump.

If nothing else this shows one of the dangers of getting extremely inebriated in public, especially if alone.
